Welcome back, Pilgrim. Here’s what’s happened in town since you’ve been away…
Welcome back to the Reformer Newsletter, where we can take a dive into various projects and activities from around web3 and across the Christian community. You have joined this network to contribute to our collective mission of building for Christ’s Kingdom, and we will use this newsletter as a platform to enable that.
The FTX-linked contagion in the crypto markets is spreading. Some more major brokerages appear to be on the verge of bankruptcy, and other exchanges are making noise about how “everything is totally fine; nothing to see here” which sounds oddly reminiscent of Do Kwon’s and SBF’s calls before their catastrophic failures. Remember, crypto is a risky venture, and the great projects in web3 are (in part) subject to greater market forces. So do what you need to do to remain safe- don’t invest what you cannot afford to lose, do your own research for any opportunity you pursue, and always remember “not your keys, not your crypto.”
As believers, we are called to trust in Him and know that He will not let us down. We are also called to be trustworthy ourselves. This is what can set the ReformersNFT community apart- we are a network of believers looking to build in web3. We are creators, designers, writers, developers, and supporters in this space. The volatility in this space will serve to quickly burn the chaff away, and I think we are all a bit exhausted by the great quantity of chaff-burning this year has brought. Let us build systems that are worthy to survive this season and make it through to the other side.
Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.
Psalm 37:1-5
Around Web3
Guatemala Town Mining Bitcoin with Used Cooking Oil: Our community member @isaachanekamp introduced us to an effort of a small town in Guatemala to generate BTC, educate their community, provide banking to the unbanked, and clean up a local lake. This effort was actually helped along by a missionary and bitcoin user seeking to help this community!
Uniswap Overtakes Coinbase as Second-Largest Exchange Trading Ethereum: The tumultuous past week has inspired many to seek decentralized options for trading crypto. DeFi solution Uniswap has even overtaken the more centralized exchange Coinbase in trading volume. What DeFi alternative do you prefer to protect yourself from centralized institutions?
Genesis Halts Withdrawls at Lending Business: One more piece of bad news to pile on the mix. Crypto brokerage Genesis has halted withdrawls for users after apparent exposure to FTX has affected their ability to lend. What does this mean for the larger market? What does this mean for trust in this space?
Around The Kingdom
Many people in our community will be celebrating Thanksgiving this week, and it is important to remember what the purpose of this holiday is— to give thanks to God for His faithfulness to us and His provision for us. Below are a few articles linked to how we might remember this day the way our forefathers intended.

…don't think of the church as a consumer of the web3 being created, but, as a divinely instituted steward of the world, an active participant in the "creation" of web3.
@ConnorM
My takeaway: crypto needs God.
@mustardseed
“It’s great to see the practical use case for crypto here as a break from everything happening in the space right now. I was definitely encouraged and reminded about how useful this technology could be for people”
