Welcome back, Pilgrim. Here’s what’s happened in town since you’ve been away…
Welcome back to the Reformer Newsletter, where we can take a dive into various projects and activities from around web3 and across the Christian community. You have joined this network to contribute to our collective mission of building for Christ’s Kingdom, and we will use this newsletter as a platform to enable that.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it… The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, yet the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born not of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
John 1:5, 9-13
We should never forget that darkness cannot “compete” with light. There is no substance or energy to darkness which can push back against the radiance of light- darkness refers to a lack of light and not a presence of anything particular. Similarly coldness only represents a lack of heat, and in the study of thermodynamics we observe “removing heat from a system” and never “adding cold to a system.” These physical phenomena are apt representations of human experience- hatred cannot overcome love, lies cannot consume truth, and cynical doubts cannot suppress genuine faith.
We can see a world of dark and cold around us, and the coming of light at Advent drives that away. In today’s halls of power, where double-speak is the language and double-spend the mode of exchange, they are not able to resist the coming Light. As our leaders gather for their “Annual Non-Exclusive, Universal, Winter Holiday Get-Togethers”, they will load up their favorite playlists and and hear proclaimed: “This, this is Christ the King! Whom shepherds watch and angels sing,” and “O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!” Whether they receive Him is their choice.
In the crypto space we have seen institutions attempt to build upon lies, and this year the truth completely battered them. Some of the greatest thinkers and builders in this space build a wall of skeptical rationalism so they can hide in its shadow from the light. We have a blessed opportunity in this space to be believers, to boldly live in the light and proclaim the truth, and to attract others into this fold so they might receive the right to become “children of God.”
